Humberto Alanis was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and immigrated to Dalton, Georgia at the age of 5 alongside his parents and younger brother. His family eventually settled in the border town of Pharr, Texas where he graduated from PSJA ISD schools. He eventually attended the University of Texas at Austin where he obtained a degree in Government & Business and had the opportunity to do internships at the State Legislature and US Congress. While at UT, Humberto experienced firsthand the impact that a quality K-12 education can have on a student’s life trajectory. It was because of this experience that Humberto participated in the Teach For America program where he went on to teach at the same school district he attended growing up. Humberto also spent time as a program manager for the Miles Ahead Scholars program in Houston ISD, a program that works with high performing young men of color to help them attend the nation’s top colleges and universities. 

During his time in Houston, Humberto stumbled upon real estate. While working as an Uber driver part-time to invest in the family trucking business, Humberto had a conversation with a real estate agent that potentially changed his life forever. This conversation led him to buy his first home at 25. It was in this home that due to different life circumstances, Humberto was first introduced to the short-term rental industry. Prior to being involved in real estate, Humberto knew that closing the wealth gap for minorities was one of the most immediate ways to enhance the quality of education for all children. Real estate, for him, became one of many tangible ways to close the wealth gap. Because of this, Humberto helps minority families make sound investments in real estate in an effort to continue to close the wealth gap. Today, Humberto manages 10 short-term rentals based out of Houston. He is also a member of the Teach For America Alumni Board, attends Palm Valley Church and works fervently to close the wealth gap.
